"I want a perfect soul."

The 2nd half of the Radiohead inspired 2fer features one of my fave RH tracks. Yes, it's perhaps a cliche & pedestrian choice but - hey - that's why I'm a weirdo.

The full title of this recipe is "I'm A Crepe With A Weiner (What's That Sauce Doing There? It Just Belongs There.)" but that seemed a bit overkill. I know scallion pancakes are technically not crepes & these gochujang seitan sausages are not wieners but together they are delicious. That sauce is gochujang maple mustard & perfect for dipping.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of math-rock Radiohead. I mean I get it & it's somewhat interesting but I still prefer Pablo Honey to OK Computer.

Depending on how one interprets the laws of traditional shawarma, it's likely I'm in trouble with the Shawarma Police over this recipe. First, it's completely vegan. Second, it's a taco. Though technically that's more a misdemeanor as flatbread is just a thick tortilla. Lemon garlic chickwheat fried with shawarma spice then served with a cucumber salsa, Sort Of Shawarma sauce, & Tofeta. What's tofeta? Kinda of like feta crossed with queso fresco made with tofu.

The Stevie Wonder album that serves as pun-spiration here is not one of my faves. I prefer his early works & feel this marks a pivot to his Top 40 MOR years. That said, "Pastime Paradise" is one of my fave Wonder songs & serves as theme for this dish.

I am certain my future paradise will contain an endless supply of chewy Korean rice cakes (aka tteok) so I can make tteokbokki any time I wish. This simple dish of rice cakes in a gochujang sauce is an open canvas for dinner upgrades. I've kept this recipe simple so you can compose your own dinner in the key of tteok.

As someone who grew up next to Canada, I know this recipe is poutine adjacent like Taco's debut album is music adjacent. Not authentic in any way but still fun & satisfying. A vegetarian version of poutine with Buffalo chickwheat, Buffalo sauce, mozzarella, & twice-fried fries. The perfect plate when you're sad & blue on a #fryday.

Pop music earwigs are unreservedly reviled. If a band can create a song that get stuck in your head for days, they should be lauded for the achievement. Hanson one & only hit is #2 in the All Time Top Earwigs & I'm betting it's already looking in your head.

Which really has nothing to do with this Korean style rice bowl other than a pun I'm surprised I haven't used earlier. Bulgogi seitan, cucumber kimchi, sauteed carrots, soy glazed mushrooms, sesame spinach, & a crispy fried egg over rice. It seems like a lot of moving parts but actually comes together in 30 minutes (other than bulgogi & kimchi prep time).

Here's where writing music inspired recipe zines can lead to a bit of education. I have always thought the theme song for this was a Lennon solo release, but it's actually a non-album Beatles single. Go figure!

Egg salad is the Yoko Ono of sandwich fillings. Very divisive despite its potential for creativity. This is a riff on a Japanese tomago Sandi crossed with a pimento cheese deviled egg. Much like Ms. Ono's art, I kind of liked this while also thinking one is enough for a while.

While I am far from immortal, you can certainly trust me when I say these vegan tacos are great for Baja style fans & '80s post-punk bands. Seasoned & fried tofu makes an incredibly accurate sub for fish. Topped with a quick pickled jalapeño slaw & sambal cashew sauce. The perfect nosh to have while you dance dance dance to the radio.

This is childhood home nostalgia for me updated for my current plant-based cooking & a tribute to a fave Peter Gabriel song. Salisbury seitan, roasted garlic & mozzarella mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, caramel apple compote, & cornbread. Likely the only full meal I'll ever make for Music & Food.
